Chevron is working with the local industry to secure Western Australia’s future as a self-sufficient producer of cleaner-burning natural gas.
In 2015, we are celebrating 10 years of participating with the Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA) to conduct petroleum research, technology development and education and training projects. Much of this work has been in support of the Gorgon and Wheatstone natural gas projects.
WA:ERA consists of three leading research and development (R&D) organisations – the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Curtin University and the University of Western Australia.
The alliance fosters the exchange of technology and knowledge between industry and research bodies, strengthens research collaboration and provides an unique opportunity for leveraging technology.
Since joining the alliance, we have invested about $50 million in more than 140 research projects as well as university chairs and professorships.
The combination of WA:ERA R&D competencies and our funding and resource support, creates a vehicle through which all partners can grow research capabilities to deliver technological advancements needed to help secure WA's energy future.
Some recent examples of Chevron funded WA:ERA projects include
- Enhanced thermodynamic simulation for improved plant performance
- Wave Glider pilot at Wheatstone
- Stablepipe “O” Tube facility to optimize pipeline stability solutions
