Chevron Australia has a long-term commitment to collaborative research projects. Through our University Partnership Program (UPP) we partner with universities around the world to foster academic excellence, grow research capacity, build key relationships and provide student scholarships.
In Western Australia we have partnered with two of the State's leading universities to help strengthen Perth's standing as an energy sector centre of excellence in the region.
In 2012, we partnered with Curtin University, investing $1 million over three years to fund a new Chair in Petroleum Geology at Curtin's Department of Applied Geology. The partnership will enhance knowledge and capability in soft rock and petroleum geology through long-term research and the development of higher degree education programs.
In 2011, we signed a major partnership agreement with The University of Western Australia (UWA), investing $5.75 million to elevate the existing Chair in Gas Process Engineering (GPE) from a three to five year fixed term agreement.
Our partnership with UWA began in 2008 when we invested $2.3 million over three years to fund a new Chair, two postdoctoral appointments and two PhD scholarships in gas processing engineering at UWA.
Additional support includes the funding of a Chair of Petroleum Geoscience at UWA and a Chair of Corrosion Engineering at Curtin University.
