Gerry Flaherty is gas stategy development manager for Chevron Australia located in Perth, Western Australia. Flaherty manages the development and implementation of Chevron Australia’s gas strategy, coordinating technical and commercial aspects, and stakeholder relationships.
Prior to joining Chevron Australia in May 2011, Flaherty was based in Bangkok, where he held the position of general manager, New Ventures and Non-Operated Joint Ventures in Chevron's Asia South Business Unit, encompassing work in Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar.
Joining Chevron Corporation in California in 1981 as an exploration geologist, Flaherty has worked on a variety of development and exploratory projects. He has held a number of positions in various capacities around the world, including asset manager for Tengiz Chevroil in Kazahkstan, exploration supervisor for Chevron Angola-Southern Africa, asset manager for Chevron Nigeria Ltd and general manager of Asset Development for Chevron North America-Mid Continent and Alaska.
Flaherty's 35 years of industry experience also includes managing a number of unconventional projects, including coalbed methane in the United States and shale gas exploration in China.
Flaherty earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geophysics from the Boston College and a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Oregon. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and has served on the Board of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA).
