Environmental Stewardship, as with all Chevron operations worldwide, is a key element to how we do business. It’s part of The Chevron Way values and it underpins our development of Wheatstone.

Looking after the environment is the right thing to do. It’s critical to our success in a world where energy sources must be developed in a safe and environmentally responsible way. Protecting People and the Environment is an important value to Chevron Australia.

Environmental Responsibility

We are working with the local community to ensure that the project is developed the right way - The Chevron Way.

We work closely with government, communities, regulators and other industry members to seek solutions together that work.

As part of environmental regulatory approvals for our Wheatstone Project from the Australian and Western Australian governments, Chevron is required to meet a range of stringent environmental conditions. A $13 million environmental offsets package includes $3.5 million over four years to improve management of critical habitats for humpback whales, dugongs and snubfin dolphins in Pilbara waters.

The conditions also include reductions in greenhouse gas emissions through offsetting approximately 2.6 million tonnes per year of reservoir carbon dioxide emissions.

The project has undergone a rigorous and thorough assessment and the conditions will result in reduced environmental impacts, consistent with Chevron’s commitment to environmental management and stewardship.

We Agree. Energy production and the environment can co-exist.
