Chevron Australia is a foundation participant in the Browse LNG Development – one of Australia’s largest undeveloped gas resources.

Our combined interest in the project averages around 17.5 percent.

The three gas fields comprising the Browse development – Torosa, Brecknock and Calliance –  were discovered between 1971 and 2000. They are located in the Browse Basin about 250 kilometres off the far north-west coast of Western Australia.

The Browse resources contain approximately 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 370 million barrels of condensate,

Our plans are to convert the natural gas from the three fields into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to international markets.

Current Status

Browse Joint Venture Participants (JVPs) have started Basis of Design work on the Western Australian Government’s Browse LNG Precinct at James Price Point, north of Broome, as the location to process the JVPs Browse Basin gas.

We’re now focused on a high quality work program, incorporating assurance processes to confirm a compelling business case, prior to the front-end engineering and design (FEED) entry decision.

We remain committed to the prudent and responsible development of the Browse gas resources and believe that with continued study and effort, the project’s full potential can be realised.

We’re focused on working with the other JVPs and government to address commercial and technical challenges inherent in developing this project, as well as working towards gaining necessary environmental, heritage and indigenous approvals.
