Health & Safety

Chevron, 50 percent owner of Gorgon, has a worldwide reputation for leadership in Protecting People and the Environment and is committed to ensuring safe work practices.

Gorgon Health and Safety teams work closely with the various project teams and primary contractors to develop and implement effective health and safety processes, plans and procedures.

All construction work and related activities on Barrow Island and on the mainland will be undertaken in accordance with the relevant applicable codes, standards and regulations.

Safety cases will be implemented for the relevant upstream and downstream facilities. In addition, standard operating procedures and emergency response procedures are in place to cover all upstream and downstream activities.

A fully productive employee must first be safe and secure. The health and safety of our employees and contractors is paramount.

Investing in the Health of the Gorgon Workforce

The health of Chevron’s construction and operational workforce will be looked after by Medibank Health Solutions as part of a $20 million five-year contract to deliver medical personnel and services on Barrow and Thevenard islands.
 
The company will provide an all encompassing medical service for injury treatment and management, injury prevention programs, drug and alcohol testing, health education and a General Practitioner service for non-work related injuries and illnesses.
 
Doctors, nurses and physiotherapists will be among the personnel providing services as part of the contract.  Medibank Health Solutions will also work in partnership with St John Ambulance to ensure the availability of industrial paramedics.
 
Up to 10,000 people working on the Gorgon Project will benefit from the initiative which reflects the Gorgon Joint Venture Participants ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of its workforce.
