Globally, natural gas is a growing segment of Chevron's energy portfolio.
Chevron Australia brings the substantial gas reserves from beneath the Earth’s surface to the people who use it.
Approximately 70 percent of the natural gas produced by Chevron Australia is sold as liquefied natural gas (LNG), primarily under long-term contract to major utilities in Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan. Natural gas also is sold into the Western Australian domestic gas market.
Some customers commission Chevron Australia to transport LNG by sea using sophisticated LNG tankers. Other customers transport the LNG themselves. Natural gas is supplied to the Western Australian domestic market through underwater and above-ground pipelines.
The Gas Marketing and Commercialization team also provides ongoing customer support and liaison activities.
The price of natural gas is set by market forces, based on supply and demand for the commodity in the marketplace.
