Chevron joins with Swan Districts for Sporting and Educational Excellence

PERTH, Western Australia, 11 August 2010 – Chevron Australia Pty Ltd today announced a funding partnership with the Swan Districts Football Club to support sporting and educational programs in Onslow.

Chevron External Affairs Manager Peter Eggleston said the investment in the Chevron V Swans Active Youth Development Program would help the Swan Districts Football Club deliver key social, health, academic outcomes in Onslow, Western Australia.

 “This social investment aligns with our health and education focus in Onslow, encouraging youth to stay and excel in school while leading healthy lifestyles.”

Swan Districts Football Club chief executive officer Brendan Parker said he was pleased that Chevron had agreed to partner their program in Onslow.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Chevron Australia in a collaborative way to achieve joint outcomes for youth and the community,” Mr Parker said.

“V Swans has positioned itself as arguably Western Australia’s leading youth development sporting program provider, operating in the Pilbara, Bunbury and eastern metropolitan suburbs of Perth,” he said.

The V Swans Program uses sport as a tool to engage young people in education.  Comprised of a range of curriculum based and community programs, V Swans addresses’ educational, employment, social, sporting and health outcomes.

The Program offers a strong partnership for capacity building and engagement with young people in the Pilbara.  In particular, it is working strategically to close the gap between the life outcomes of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
