In 2007, we partnered with the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research to implement the Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) in Exmouth to help assess how well the community was supporting young children and their families.

Based on the Canadian Early Development Instrument, the AEDI is a population measure of young children’s development from a teacher-completed checklist measuring five key developmental focus areas.

Our support also provided the Institute with the opportunity to conduct forums in Exmouth, Karratha and Onslow to help those communities understand the basis of the AEDI and how its results would help address identified needs in the community.

We’re now using the results from the AEDI research to underpin our early childhood partnerships in Exmouth and Onslow.
