The aim of the Environment category is to protect and rehabilitate the local environment and educate the community on the importance of doing so.
In 2009, two environmental grants were awarded including:
$5,000 for the Conservation Animal Rescue, Research and Education (CARE) in Exmouth to run an education campaign to prevent and reduce the numbers of road kill, orphaning and displacement of native wildlife.
$5,000 for The Roo Group in Karratha to continue their work rescuing and rehabilitating injured kangaroos by purchasing an incubator for pinkies, tetanus vaccines, veterinary fees and other educational resources.
