Our new partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Australia (RFDS) acknowledges unsung community heroes who have risen to the challenge of raising funds for the vital rural service.

The Awards recognise individuals across rural Western Australia who demonstrate a commitment to community service through their fundraising efforts, initiative, humanity and spirit.

Although Chevron Australia has been a long time financial supporter of the RFDS, in 2009 it announced a major sponsorship of the Spirit of the West Awards.

Our Commitment to Rural WA

The Awards reflect our commitment to community engagement in regional Western Australia, while recognising the efforts of local individuals’ dedicated fundraising efforts, initiative, humanity and spirit. They will also help build the capacity of the RFDS to raise more funds and that is good for people living in rural WA.

The inaugural 2010 winners demonstrated a strong commitment to their local community and helped highlight the importance of the emergency medical service to the State.

Quairading Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service captain Peter Hudson took out the main award on the night for his work in establishing an annual lawn bowls fundraiser that has grown from strength to strength in its first four years.

Other rural residents recognised as having a true “Community Spirit” included Lara Dawson, of  Mukinbudin, Verna Barker, of Pannawonica and Adrian Roocke, of  Katanning.
